The CustomVue procedure performed with expertise by Sugarland Eye & Laser Center in Houston is setting new frontiers in laser vision correction surgery. Providing unprecedented levels of precision and accuracy, the procedure leverages several modern technologies including 3D ActiveTrak. It not only ensures precise ablation, but also makes more people eligible to take up corneal correction treatments.
Precise measurements powered by proprietary algorithms
The CustomVue procedure is powered by proprietary algorithms that provide the highest wavefront error resolution. On a patient’s pupil alone, more than 240 data points can be treated. High success rates are ensured on high and low order aberrations. All of this translates into superior vision and reduced dependence on glasses and contact lenses.
Most FDA approvals
This laser eye surgery has the highest FDA approvals to be used on patients with myopia and hyperopia. In clinical studies the treatment has enable all low to moderate myopia patients to pass driving tests without glasses or contact lenses. This treatment has been met with formidable success for patients with mixed astigmatism and high myopia conditions as well.
CustomVue procedure steps
This procedure is based on the following steps
•The patient’s wavefront error data is collected.
•Based on the collected data a customized treatment is designed. The treatment is based on the patient’s unique eye characteristics.
•The treatment is performed using precise intricate shapes that reconstruct and precisely ablate.
When is a patient not qualified for a LASIK surgery?
The following conditions disqualify a person from undergoing LASIK surgery.
•Pregnant women cannot have this surgery as during this phase the cornea may undergo temporary and unpredictable changes.
•Patients with collagen vascular disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune disease such as lupus, or immunodeficiency disease such as AIDS cannot undergo this eye surgery because the body’s ability to heal is lower.
•Any corneal thinning condition such as keratoconus can lead to corneal complications if this surgery is performed. It may even lead to the need for additional corrective surgery and eventually result in poor vision.
•Certain medications have ocular side effects and may influence the accuracy of the treatment adversely.
What precautions do doctors take before treating patients?
Unstable eyes cannot be operated upon. If the visual acuity of eyes has changed 1.0 diopter in farsightedness or astigmatism in the past year, the eyes are unstable. Infection of the cornea or corneal disease may prevent healing after any type of surgery. An eye doctor will rule out laser treatment if the corneal center has had an injury before or any other type of surgery has been performed such as RK or PRK.
It is left to the discretion and analysis of the doctor. Pupil size is another consideration to determine the results of laser eye surgery. The doctor measures the pupil size under dim lighting conditions for this purpose. Patients with a history of glaucoma and whose eye pressure history is greater than 21 mmHb in the inside of the eyes are tested thoroughly to determine their eligibility.
