Beyond the Blade

Surgeries have been performed since human beings lived in caves and the technology has come a very long way. Where there were once stone tools that most likely needed to be sharpened several times during surgery, blades nowadays are made out of highly complex alloys that resist developing rust or growing any kind of bacteria that may harm the patient. Nevertheless, the blade is no longer the most powerful, nor the most advanced form of surgical tool that is available to modern people.
Lasers

Lasers are a form of light that becomes strengthened by bouncing a portion of the light through a mirrored chamber until the light becomes strong enough to make cuts, which includes surgery. Lasers have been used in surgical procedures since the 1960’s, when the first lasers were tested in clinics. Those lasers were inefficient, difficult to control, and generally needed to be supplemented by some type of blade to make the most precise kinds of cuts. A lot has changed over the ensuring decades, as today lasers can be used independently of any types of traditional blades. Lasers can make even the most advanced kind of cuts, particularly in tiny areas of the eyes such as those where LASIK surgery is performed.

For many years, the process of laser eye surgery needed a microplane, which is a type of blade that will shave off or open up a flap in the eye. It can become manipulated and reshaped to become more effective. While this was necessary for a long time, nowadays this is not the case at all. Without the need for any kind of blade, the process of laser surgery has become even safer and a more advanced method of altering a person’s eye sight.

Options

When your eyes work well, a lot of new options open up to you that were previously closed off. Some of these options include new potential careers, such as being a pilot. Other avenues that may open up to you may include new vocations, such as skeet shooting. While these may be possible for you through the use of glasses or contact lenses, there is nothing better than having the right level of eyesight without any of kind of external additions to your body.

One problem that laser eye surgery used to have was that a surgeon’s hands could become a problem during the procedure. With even the smallest tremor or a split second of inattention, a person’s eyesight could actually be made worse. Even the best trained and most experienced of surgeons can make a physical error, which is precisely why blades have fallen out of favor in recent years. When the blade and the surgeon’s hand is taken away from the process, a computer and servo that have less probability making an error as long as they are properly maintained and calibrated exists. Add to that if the surgeon enters the correct information gathered about a patient then it can be used even more effectively. This is the power of the laser eye surgery when one moves beyond the blade.
